But I think it’s remarkably short-sighted (and maybe a sign that you should play more games that don’t have the AAA label that you seem to put on a pedestal) to just blanket declare that big game better than small game because big game cost more money. I’m not going to tell you that Hades is better than the games you listed because I can’t. Ultimately, everything I just said is subjective. And it’s funny you mention performance, because both Elden Ring and RDR were bug-ridden nightmares for me, as incredible as they are and as much as I love them. and even scale is a tricky thing because I’ve played Hades longer than I have all of those titles combined. If you’re going to argue that because these games are more powerful graphically they are objectively superior, that’s silly because it’s not true. If you’re going to argue a game’s quality is relative to its budget then I don’t know what to say. The only thing these AAA games have over indies is an increased budget, graphical fidelity, and scale. In terms of art design, the only game that holds a candle to it out of the ones you’ve listed is Elden Ring. The gameplay loop offers what i think is the best the roguelike has to offer - I’m at 300hrs and still finding new bits of dialogue and combat options. Hades has over 300,000 lines of the most brilliantly written dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a video game. The presupposition that indie games, by definition, can’t rival AAA games. It’s funny / actually quite helpful because this is exactly the type of bizarre mindset that irks me. Its like comparing a ww1 plane to a f-16, the pilots or manufacturers of the plane (the devs) could be amazing, but for the ww1 plane, they are limited by technology (budget in game's case) meanwhile if the f-16's pilot is good, they will have a better performance than the best of the ww1 pilots, because their technology is better, they can do more and better Still, indie games are great, don't misunderstand me, they usually have so much more soul then the average triple A, but still it can't be compared to the best triple A's Yeah you can argue, but if we talk objectively, talking about gameplay quality, narrative quality, content and overall, most people would agree that the games i told you are better, an its kinda imposible to have AAA in the same tier as indie, of course an indie can be better than most shitty AAA games, but AAA have so much more budget that indies, experience, bigger teams, this makes comparing them to indie devs unfair, an indie team could make a really good game, enjoyable and everything, but I'll never be better than what a company like rockstar can do because of their limitations Legacy Platforms: PS4 - PS3 - PS2 - PS1 - PSP Spoiler GuideĪlternatively, use the redesign spoiler tag found in the toolbar.
